Books about people “trapped together”

Thursday, September 9, 2010 | 6:05 pm

I came across this reader’s advisory thread on Ask Metafilter. At first I thought it was a little morbid, then I realized that I had read a lot of the titles, so I’m not sure what that says about me.

I think a lot of these could be crossover titles, especially Life of Pi, the Stephen King titles, and of course Hatchet. If I had to create a wholly YA list, Island of the Blue Dolphins would definitely be on it; one of my all time favorites, as well as Sarah Bishop. They aren’t necessary stories of people trapped together, but more about personal determination to survive in the face of terrible odds.

And of course, you’d need a survival cardigan.

Wow, just wow.

This is pretty terrible. I usually love Leifsdottir, but no, no, no. Maybe there is a way to cut off the Poni? Too bad we’ll never get to see this in person, since it is only available online.

More Adults Confess to Lovin’ YA Lit

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 | 6:08 pm

Nice to know that I’m not alone in my love of YA lit.  Check out Pamela Paul’s Essay, courtesy of the NYT.

I know that I’ve been slacking a bit on my book reviews, but rest assured, I will make amends.

For now, I hope you’ll be content a couple of new Fall 2010 Cardigans.

The first is from Alexander Wang’s new “T” line, which is basically him offering the basics that made him famous, as seen here, with an open front cardigan:

And this is a more fashion-forward Alexander Wang cardigan, complete with leather sleeves:

And just for fun, here is what I think of as the Jack Skellington cardigan:

And yes, I’m still waiting for Mockingjay.

Twilight Saga Cardigan

Friday, June 11, 2010 | 1:25 pm

Well it seems that Brass Plum at Nordstrom’s can now fulfill all your Twilight needs. Not only can you buy Twilight-themed t-shirts, jeans, skirts, hoodies, and of course, a cardigan:

but you can also get a life-size cutout of Bella, Jacob, or Edward:

And if you still can’t get enough, for a limited time only, Stephanie Meyer is giving away digital copies of the new Twilight Novella, The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner.

Cardi-shawl

Wednesday, May 19, 2010 | 11:02 pm

It seems like every where I look I see the “drape cardigan” in stores and fashion magazines. I am un-decided if these are deliciously cozy or borderline sloppy.  With Spring/Summer on its way, it would be nice to have some added fabric to fend off the over-active air conditioning that seems to plague every library workroom I’ve been in (and don’t get me started about working in an academic archive – brrrrr!) but I wonder if it is one of those items that needs a good accessory to make it work, like a big belt, to give it a more polished look. If that’s that case, maybe they aren’t for me.

[Quinn] Fabray Cardigan

Monday, April 19, 2010 | 12:05 am

I’m a big fan of Glee, and in honor of the upcoming Madonna episode, here is the Fabray Cardigan! I especially love the elongated sleeves with the thumb holes. Is there a technical name for that design feature? Half-mitts? Sleeve-mits? Mitt-Sweaters? Whatever the label, it is super-cute! Enjoy!

“Shibori” Cardigan

Monday, March 22, 2010 | 3:43 pm

As a rule I really enjoy Leifdottir designs. I thought it was interesting that this was labeled as a “Shibori” print since it is a little tamer than a lot of shibori I’ve seen, but to each their own.

The fabric accent ruffle is cool, and I could imagine DIYers out there revamping their own cardigans with the same technique. The cardigan also comes in spearmint.
